Why did we ever leave? Our stay was very
comfortable and it was great coming back to the bar in the evenings and meeting
different people to chat to. We have been to Tavira many times before as we
love it's 'faded spendour' and the fantastic beach. We have not stayed in such
a comfortable and friendly accommodation there before.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday
on the Algarve staying at Tavira Inn. Tavira is a small, typical Portugese town
set on both sides of the river. Take a quiet stroll through the town, see the
sights and soak up the atmosphere. Tavira Inn is run by the extovert Sebastiao
who will recommend which local restaurant to visit for your evening meal (the
fish is especially good). Afterwards enjoy a drink, a chat and listen to Sebastiao,s
wonderful jazz collection in his bar with his other guests from countries such
as Australia, America, Germany, Norway and Gibraltar

A lovely relaxed week in Tavira - just what
we needed. The Tavira Inn and it's welcoming, helpful host added to the enjoyment.
We loved the bar and met friendly, interesting people. Highly recommended. Thank
you Sebastian - CD of Scottish jazz will be sent soon. Pauline and Allan

netten Tage in Tavira, in Tavira Inn. Wir kommen gerne wieder und bitten Dich
alle zu grüßen, die uns noch kennen.

Thanks for the warm welcome at the Tavira
Inn Sebastian! We enjoyed our stay immensely and thought Tavira itself was a
gem of a place - we do hope the Portugese keep it that way. The Tavira Inn is
so stylish and we love the way you've succeeded in combining the traditional
and the contemporary - the sun umbrellas in the Jazz Bar particularly! The only
think on my wish list would be a kettle and a coolbox in the bedroom. Many thanks
- we enjoyed your company and that of your other lovely guests.

Excellent host, very welcoming and hospitable.
Good location 5 minutes walk to centre. Tavira is a historic, pretty fishing
town benefiting from tourism but relatively unaffected by the overdevelopment
so prevalent elsewhere on the Algarve.

We loved staying at Casa del Rio in Tavira,
Sebestio was a great host and we enjoyed swimming in the seawater pool . The
Funky Jazz Bar was also cool and we met some fine, intersting people there and
had lively conversations. Tavira itself has fine character and we enjoyed leisurely
days wandering in and out and discovering places to eat and drink. We especially
enjoyed the walk up to the old castle ruins and churches and the views of the
town from above. The short boat trip to the isla was also an enjoyable experience.
Our only complaint was that the sea was too cold

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tavira
Inn. It provided a restful, quiet place to relax. We enjoyed the ability to
walk into the town and how close it was to restaurants and shops. Tavira Inn
is very well run with a helpful and welcoming host.

manniska . Res hit och trivs!

My only complaint about my stay at the Tavira
Inn is that it was too short! This place is a real treasure and I would come
back in a heartbeat. Sebastião has created a place that captures the
spirit of the Algarve and his own unique sensibilities - he has succeeded beautifully.
I hope to return soon. Thank you, Sebastião!

Visually stunning oasis where we felt warmly
welcomed. We plan to send all of our friends here. We truly relaxed, maybe for
the first time in months. What a fun, "eclectic" experience. Thank
you for the boat ride, the beach, the sunset and the beer, Sebastian.

Inma.

We stayed at the Tavira Inn for five nights
in July of this year. The hotel was everything the website had led us to expect,
and more. The only comment we would make is that Sebastiao is not really as
old as he looks in the website photo! The hotel is a short walk to Tavira, its
many excellent restaurants, and the ferry to the wonderful beach. Look out for
the Sunshine Bar on the beach...they play the greatest music, including daily
doses of Madredeus, a superb Portuguese group. We will definitely return to
Tavira, and when we do there is nowhere else we would consider staying than
chez Sebastiao.

Dear Sebastiao, just a quick note to say
thank you so much for a fantastic time. Your inn is truly unique, private, and
funky. The rooms are gorgeously furnished and the bathroom great, the pool is
fabulous and overall the place could not be more relaxing nor its host more
welcoming. I warned you I was a critic, so I ahve jsut three small comments
to make: it would be good if you advertised that children are not allowed and
that rooms have air conditioning. A fridge would be fantastic, as though the
bar is great, opening times are limited and it is hard to keep water cool. Til
next time, molto obrigada,

Sebastiao's lively web site gives you a
very good picture of this friendly and comfortable place to stay. We particularly
enjoyed cooling off in the pool after a day out. In the evenings we strolled
down to the picturesque town and had an excellent meal in one of the many restaurants.
Then we would go back to Sebastiao's 'Jazz Bar' to complete the evening with
some good conversation with the other guests and our friendly host. We shall
return!

Hi Sebastiao, Just a note to say again how
much we enjoyed our stay. You have created a really unique and charming place,
and we will happily recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Algarve. Tavira
is a nice and sleepy town, with a few tourists like us, but not the hordes you
find elsewhere, and it's nowhere near as tacky as the resort towns. You're a
great host, too, and made our time there very special. We enjoyed visiting your
house, and Maeve particularly appreciates the care you showed her when she was
ill. Thanks again, and we hope to come back sometime in the next few years.
Jim Whittle P.S. The one suggestion I have for the place is maybe a vending
machine selling coffee and/or water.

This is a great place to stay. Very relaxing
and easy to walk into Tavira, the unspoilt town. Easy access to Quinta da Ria
golf course, which is why I came to this part of Algarve for a few days. Would
have no hesitation to go back to a place that feels home from home. A great
pool and bar, and no problem with the trains, in fact they are a novelty.

Dear Sebastiao, We have just arrived
back in Australia and have now written an entry in your guest book about your
wonderful place. We also had a wonderful time in Lisbon. It reminded us of San
Francisco in the USA with the trams and the views to the Tejo River. We also
enjoyed Cascais and Sintra very much. Obidos town was a fantastic site but not
a real living town like Tavira. You can read Neville's travel stories which
includes Tavira ( story number 5) on ( Copy and past to your browser ) http://www.bootsnall.com/travelogues/neville/5.shtml.
Read the other stories as well .You can refer people to it if you wish. I will
send the seeds in a few weeks time and thanks again for being a genuine and
relaxed host. Best wishes Neville and Rhondda Millen

Tavira Inn is a rare gem of a place for
travellers located in a very special authentic town in the Algarve. Sebastiao
shares his home with you and that is the critical difference and explains the
special care and attention to every detail; decore, salt water pool, bar with
umbrellas and for us Aussies- a developing eucalypt forest and the smell of
gum leaves to remind us of home.A very special place to come back to when we
can and to also recommend enthusiatically to other travellers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Seb's Tavira Inn from
23 May until 28 of May 2003! Our accomodation was superb and the entire Inn
is absolutely wonderful. Seb has done an outstanding job with the furnishings,
decorating and maintaining this marvelous Inn, not to mention the planning and
construction of the Pool & Bar! His style and atomsphere is fun, interesting
and friendly, and with quite humorous character. You will feel it everywhere. We
were quite happy that we chose the town of Tavira for our first visit to the
Algarve. With the new magnificent roadway A-2 we were able to visit the southern
coast in it's entirety without spending much time on the driving. It took us
just over an hour to make it to the very Southwestern point of Sagres. Tavira
was a perfect town for us as it offered everything, but most importantly still
had it's charm and was not over-commercialized. We found fantastic seafood restaurants,
a wonderful market, beautiful walks around the castle and it's many churches,
very friendly people and a nice beach! We miss it already! Thanks, Sebastiao!

I am pleased to be writing
to say I had a wonderful stay in Tavira. My boyfriend and I were on a pretty
hectic travel timetable and a few days in Tavira was the perfect place to relax
& recharge the batteries. Tavira has a wonderful pace of life, a great beach,
excellent food and hot hot weather. Our stay was made better by the Tavira Inn
where the hosts are fun and relaxed and you can't bet the swimming pool. Definately
go to Tavira and stay at the Tavira Inn!

The town of Tavira is an absolute gem!
Authentic little restaurants, delicious fresh fish, beautiful architecture,
journeys to the gorgeous beach on a lovely little boat, and of course the Tavira
Inn! Such a great place to stay - relaxed, friendly and informal, unique atmosphere
and decoration, lovely pool and funky jazz bar in the evenings.I would recommend
it to anyone! Explore inland through the beautiful orange groves on a moped
- excellent fun! We loved Tavira and the Tavira Inn and are hoping to come back.

Just got back from a week's
stay with Sebastiao - a mine of information on where to go and what to see in
the Algarve. Loved Tavira - a real town, but just something built for tourists.
The Isla beaches are superbly kept and managed, too. Well worth a visit for

We
had a wonderful stay at the Tavira Inn! We really appreciate how quaint and
how CLEAN everything was; the rooms were lovely and we loved sitting on the
balcony looking over the river. Tavira was our favorite town in Portugal. We
stayed the last three nights at a 5 star resort in Albufeira and longed to be
back in Tavira. The Tavira Inn is a perfect choice for a romantic vacation without
the kids! Thanks for opening the bar for us and we really enjoyed meeting you,

home, it was a pleasure to spend time in Tavira what a beautiful Town! and the
sourounding area really does have everything you need for a perfect holiday.Sebastiao
you are a great host and we really appreciated the time you spent with us. Your
bar is very special and the ambience is just right, (you are an outdoor lighting

advice is quite simply STOP NOW AND BOOK IT

We are still trying to adjust to “real life” after our
delightful stay in Tavira. What made the stay so enjoyable was, of course, our
7 days in your lovely Inn. Both Ingrid and I found the town, the immediate surroundings,
and the countryside of the Algarve enchanting. The restaurants were especially
good - thanks for your recommendations Sebastiao! And, also thanks for sending
us to places far and near for day trips both intriguing and fascinating. And
getting to Saville was a bonus! We highly recommend Tavira Inn to all!

Hello Maestro Sebastião,
Rita & I still have very fond memories of our trip to Spain and Portugal
(May-June, 2000), and we especially enjoyed our stay at your fine Tavira Inn.
We only wished we could have stayed longer, but we were on a road trip. We live
in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and Tavira, Portugal, is a long ways
away. There's a whole world we would still like to see, but if we ever have
the pleasure to travel to Portugal again, we would not hesitate to find our
way to the Tavira Inn. I see you've changed the name from "Casa Do Rio"
to "Tavira Inn". I've added a link on our Spain/Portugal (Tavira)
webpage to http://www.tavira-inn.com (see http://www.azevedo.ca/20000521/tavira.htm)
It was very nice (and a surprise) to hear from you. Respect,Chris & Rita

Hi Sebastiao, Thanks for a great weeks
holiday. Anyone who likes your website (which is what attracted me) can rest
assured they will not be disappointed. Tavira is a gem of Portugal - not too
developed, with a great beach, even in March if the weather is good! Great food
at sensible prices and a wonderfully happy and obliging host. We will meet again!

What an unusual and tasteful
hotel. We had a marvellous time and look forward to returning soon. The restaurant
recommendations from Sebastio were invaluable. Tavira is so unspoilt with a
charm all of its own. After years of visiting the Western Algarve we wish we
had discovered Tavira sooner. Sebastio's suggestion to visit Seville was also
inspired. He is a talking guidebook!!

gilt: Seja qual for o destino no Algarve, a nossa rota passa por aqui.Claudia

Tavira
Inn is a charming, relaxing place to stay. Sebastiao you are a wonderful host
and your 'Funky Jazz Bar' is superb! We enjoyed our 4 day stay with you and
will definately be returning soon for another short break. Any couples wanting
a short break from the children this is an ideal guest house, 'no kids allowed'yipee!
Tavira Inn is well located, just a short walk to the wonderful, romantic town
of Tavira. This charming, working town has it all, great bars and restaurants,
great shops, a beautiful beach about 1 mile away and the local people are so
nice. Nights are quiet and romantic, it was lovely sitting on the old bridge
at night mixing with both locals and tourists.

Billie and I had a great weekend. Sebasiao was charming
and very welcoming, and the Tavira Inn is ideally located for walking into town,
sampling the bars and restaurants, and admiring the tradional unspoilt quantness
of it all. On the Saturday we had a lazy day at the beach at Praia do Barril
just past Santa Luzia - you drive to a car park and then you can either walk
across (15 mins) to the superb beach, or there is a train that runs back and
forth. We'll be back, I'm sure!Iain & Billie

Greetings Sebastiao!Many
thanks for a great week at Tavira Inn. Your establishment is cool, comfortable
and characterful. The decor and artworks are a credit to your obviously very
talented daughter. The bar is a classic (and your lack of urgency in closing
it most commendable.) We particularly enjoyed the conversations and the selection
of modern jazz background music on offer.Tavira is also a great little place,
especially for food. We found the steaks at the Beira Rio Restaurant particularly
good. (We had the lamb chops there on another occasion and were served with
ten of them between the pair of us.) We also found the Aquasul Restaurant excellent
value (great olives and house red wine.) Best of all the seafood restaurants
at the far end of town were similarly superb. The "Cataplanas" (a
classic Portuguese wok-like cooking vessel in which various fish, shellfish
or meat dishes are prepared) should definitely not be missed.Anyway, thanks
again and best wishes to you and your family Sebastiao.- We Will Return!Irene

I would thoroughly recommend staying at the Tavira Inn;
The owner, Sebastiao, is very friendly, and the evenings at his bar are not
to be missed - I willingly volunteered to become an apprentice cocktail-maker
for two evenings, which was much fun. The seawater pool is very relaxing - you
can float in it! This hotel was so much better that the 4-star hotel in Villamoura
that my friend and I had booked for the last two days of our holiday - we wished
that we had booked our entire stay at the Tavira Inn. The town of Tavira itself
is quiet, picturesque, and not overrun with lots of tourists, unlike some other
parts of Portugal, and we enjoyed walking in the sun through its beautifully
cobbled streets. If you're in the South of Portugal, this is the place to stay!

Tavira is an excellent place if you are a true chill out person.
Where better to do this than here at Casa do Rio. The advantage of staying here
is you need not make those mistakes with Restaurants as you have a great guide
in Sebastiao. (Also for Lisbon if you are daring)This is not the Hilton but
truly authentic, if you are looking for that. Also Portugal is for fish lovers!

John and I had
a wonderful week at the Tavira Inn, and loved Tavira - a wonderfully Portuguese
town, with friendly people and romantic evenings by the river. We ate and danced
with a full moon shining and music playing in the palm lined gardens - superb!
And of course our gracious host Sebastiao made us feel more than welcome to
his home, and played us Miles Davis, who has to be the king of modern jazz.
We couldn't have wished for a better holiday. Many thanks, Sebastiao - all the

We are extremely
depressed to be back at work, and not sitting by the pool in the baking Tavira
sun. We've just had a wonderful 3 weeks in Portugal, spending our first week
at the Tavira Inn, then we headed off to Evora (which is a beautiful city in
the Alentejo region and a great place to visit if you are interested in Dolmen's
and Monoliths), we then went on to Sintra just outside of Lisbon where the scenery
is stunning, however we missed Tavira so much that we cut short our stay in
Sintra and headed back to the Tavira Inn for our last 8 days. Tavira is a great
place to visit if, like us, you hate obvious rip-off tourist resorts and prefer
relaxed chilled out places. There are several decent restaurants (it's fish
heaven man!) with very reasonable prices, and a couple of bars in the main town
where you can enjoy a quiet drink after an exhausting day at the pool side!
However, without doubt Sebastio's bar is by far the nicest and most interesting
in town and is definitely worth a visit. We'll definitely be back!!

I have to
say that Stephanie and myself had a great time at the Inn. It’s a tranquil,
great place for a base camp to explore the Algarve region. The Inn is a hidden
oasis from the hectic tourist areas that are spread along the Algarve. The saltwater
pool was a refreshing advantage after spending the day exploring the town. And
the bar at night was perfect for a nightcap. I was especially fascinated by
the décor in the bar, as well as the décor of the whole Inn. Sebastião
was a great host and pretty good as a bartender. He was always helpful, forever
on the go, and full lots of stories and tips on where to go.You have to also
get into town and explore both sides of the river. There are never ending back
alleyways that lead to all kinds of surprises. Buildings covered in decorative
tiles, whitewash old churches, small gardens that seem to popup from nowhere.
Checkout the Igreja da Misericordia church – it has an amazing carved stone
doorway. Near there is the Castelo – an old fort with views of the entire city,
there is also a wonderful garden beside it. Next door to the fort is Santa Maria
do Castelo, this church is wonderful to see and is now open in the summer.Want
the beach, No problem, 1/2 hour walk out of town, 3 minute ferry ride, and you
are at the beach – great place to spend the day.As for dining, no shortage of
good food here. I recommend Aquasul for some great french style food, and A
Barquinha for tuna steak, get the chef’s salad here, you won’t regret it. There
are an endless amount of restaurants right along the rivers edge which makes
for a very relaxing late night dinner watching the sunset set and the tide go
out. Thanks Sebastião, The stay was Fanfreakingtastic.
